Lumo Workshop is an artist-led studio with a strong leaning towards projects that have community engagement at their core.
Our experience in theatre design, carnival and public sculpture combines in a varied portfolio that is hard to categorise and includes live events, festivals, outdoor arts, special commissions and participation projects. We devise accessible opportunities for collaboration to create memorable experiences through spectacle and immersive art experiences.
Lincoln Museum Residency
For the past five years, we’ve been working closely with the Day Centres across Lincolnshire, creating projects that are as unique as the people behind them. Each residency is shaped and directed by the participants themselves—from the very first idea right through to the final delivery.
At the heart of our work is a person-centred approach. We design and deliver sessions that celebrate individual voices, experiences, and creativity, ensuring that every project reflects the people who make it possible.
Lantern Parades
For many years, we’ve been bringing people together through the art of lantern making—a perfect way to connect, create, and celebrate as a community. Working side by side with local people, we design and build lanterns that light up shared stories and collective creativity.
Our lanterns have become a highlight of community events across Lincolnshire, including Boston Illuminate, Spilsby Light Night, Lightwaves, and Winterlight—parades that fill the streets with colour, warmth, and togetherness.
Parades
We bring parades and carnivals to life — vibrant celebrations of creativity and community. From Coventry and Nottingham to the Riverlight Parade, we’ve worked with local people to design costumes, share ideas, and fill the streets with colour and joy.
Digital Art
Our digital work explores how technology can be used creatively and accessibly—often starting with the devices we already carry in our pockets. From projection and light-based pieces to interactive digital installations, we create work that invites people to connect in new ways.
Projects have included contributions to Spilsby Light Night and the Frequency International Festival of Digital Culture, developed in collaboration with young people to ensure the work reflects their ideas and experiences.
Puppet Making
Our puppet making spans from small hand-held figures to giant large-scale creations. These puppets have appeared in many different settings—parades, street festivals, stage shows, and even as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations on The Mall in London.
Whatever their size, our puppets bring creativity into public spaces, spark curiosity, and connect audiences of all ages through play and imagination.
Christmas at Doddington Hall
For the past three years, we’ve collaborated with Doddington Hall to transform this historic home into a festive, immersive experience. Each year brings a new theme—such as A Christmas Chorus—with rooms and spaces decorated to spark imagination and celebrate the season.
Working with the team at Doddington, we design installations that blend storytelling, creativity, and atmosphere, offering visitors a magical way to experience Christmas at the Hall.
